On the ellipse 

A circle has one centre. An ellipse has two — and that is why we build on it. A circle is finished; it needs nothing. An ellipse holds two points in permanent relation, each bending the path of the other. That is closer to the truth of the people who wear what we make. Every band we draw, every orbit of pavé, every clasp that closes like an embrace carries the same geometry: two centres, one line. Perfection is the wrong goal. Relation is the right one.
